How To Soothe Dermatitis, Naturally!

[ad_1]

Got Dermatitis? Sadly, sometimes I do, too, so I know how frustrating it can be! But, the good news is, every time mine pops up, I have my go-to routine, and it clears up very quickly! Thanks to our in-house Esthetician, Alex, we do have an Organic Bunny suggested routine for Dermatitis, so that is what we will be discussing today. We also just released our first targeted skin care kit, creating a kit that contains all of the items you need to soothe your dermatitis naturally, starting today! Please remember- These are suggestions and tips, not medical advice. Always speak to your Dr. regarding any questions or concerns you may have.

When it comes to Perioral Dermatitis, it’s most commonly found around the mouth, nose, and chin so while we can’t diagnose anything, if that is where you are irritated, chances are, that may be what you have! This is something that is very common for women to experience (I have struggled with this on and off for a few years), but by adjusting your diet, trying to manage stress as much as possible, and switching your skincare products to those that are gentle and clean can be a super effective method to soothing this tricky skin condition!

We always like to remind people that skin irritations are almost always a reflection of what is going on inside of us. Things to keep in mind, diet, stress, and hormonal imbalances are REAL, and while we can not see them going wrong inside of us, they can send our skin into a frenzy easily. We always suggest girls book appointments with their primary care or naturopaths to see what’s really going on inside, especially if this continues to be persistent as it’s often triggered also by hormonal imbalances that a Naturopath can better get to the root cause of!

During Pregnancy or while breastfeeding is often a common time for this to show up, as is starting or stopping birth control. There are also some inflammatory foods that we suggest people avoid while trying to heal Perioral Dermatitis, such as gluten, dairy, processed sugar, alcohol, and coffee. So, yes, everything delicious lol. Gluten, Dairy, Processed Sugar, and Coffee are often top triggers for PD flareups, so eliminating these first or cutting back on them significantly is usually extremely beneficial to the skin and speeds up the healing time!

Unfortunately, clear skin does not come from skincare alone. Many skin irritations, like dermatitis and even acne, start in the gut so diet must also be something that is adjusted in order to see max benefits from your new skincare routine! Any food that causes inflammation to the gut can definitely show up on the skin as irritation! Many times once internal imbalances have been addressed, some of these foods can slowly be added back in, especially high-quality dairy, for example. If you’d like additional support in the form of a supplement, taking a high-quality probiotic can help with maintaining gut flora balance which is also key to having clear, healthy skin!

We also love taking the Agent Nateur Holi Mane for its gut health benefits. This odorless and nearly tasteless blend is abundant in over 30 trace minerals, including silica, magnesium, calcium, and potassium, that support optimal hair, skin, and nail health. Bioavailable amino acids activate hair, skin, and nail cells to produce collagen, promote cellular repair and hydration. I take it once per day in my AM smoothie, and it truly helps my skin’s health SO much.

When it comes to sensitized, irritated, or reactive skin, we like to keep the routine very simple with a cleanser and moisturizer, and then we recommend a few other items for additional support. To make it easier, we will lay out your new routine below, along with some helpful tips and tricks to get the most out of it!

AM/PM Dermatitis Soothing Routine-

AM and/or PM Cleanser- Aleavia’s Purifying Facial Cleanser gently and effectively sloughs off dead skin cells, toxins, and excess oil to bring your skin’s pH to its optimum level relieving common skin irritations such as dermatitis, eczema, rosacea as well as acne with continued use. This mild cleanser balances, nourishes, purifies, and plumps your skin with moisture and uses skin-healing prebiotics from the sea to bring balance back to skin that needs some TLC! We carry this in mini or full sizes!

AM/PM Soothing Mist- Aleavia’s Restore Soothing Mist has plant-based nutrients that instantly soothe and hydrate your skin while accelerating the healing process with powerful prebiotics that feed beneficial bacteria and brings your skin into balance. The soft mist falls gently on your skin and quickly evaporates, leaving organic coconut oil, Acadian sea kelp, citric acid, and aloe vera to deeply penetrate and heal symptoms of eczema, rosacea, psoriasis, and dry, sensitive skin.

Tip- In place of your AM cleanser, simply apply the mist to an organic cotton pad and wipe down your skin which will remove any residue or overnight cream while also prepping the skin for moisturizer! This can also reduce any chances of drying your skin out by over cleansing 2x a day! You can also use this mist any time your skin feels itchy or irritated! We carry this in mini or full sizes!

AM/PM Moisture- Earth Harbor’s Mermaid Milk is a replenishing moisturizer that hydrates, plumps, and balances the skin while giving you a gorgeous glow. This is a lightweight, creamy formula that is packed with superfoods like spirulina & matcha, along with concentrated phytonutrients + antioxidants + vegan hyaluronic acid to perfectly moisturize, soothe and nurture the skin. This moisturizer is non-greasy, never oily nor sticky, and it absorbs quickly making it great for AM/PM!

If your skin is typically dry and feels like it usually needs more moisture, we suggest adding 2-3 drops of Earth Harbor’s Marina Oil into the lotion, blend the two together in your palm, and massaging into the skin. Make sure you take the time to really massage this into your skin so it fully absorbs, as this oil is designed to optimize the skin’s delicate microbiome, which can also be a contributing factor to PD!

Exfoliation- As tempting as it may be to scrub the skin, you do NOT want to be exfoliating right now as this can just further irritate the skin! If you feel like you are getting dead skin buildup on other areas of your face, we love using a Konjac Sponge for gentle exfoliation. These cuties combat dead skin and buildup for soft smooth skin, but again, avoid any PD with the sponge! You can use any of the white or colored clay facial sponges we carry, skip the charcoal version!

I know this may seem like a really simple routine, but this combo has worked so well for so many other girls, ourselves included! While sometimes mine will clear up in a few weeks, for some, it can take a few months to heal this completely, so don’t be surprised if you have good days and bad days, as diet, stress, and hormones absolutely affect the skin.

Also, an important tip, we would strongly suggest holding off on wearing any foundation/concealer unless it is absolutely necessary, as less is more when it comes to PD. I personally find that makeup usually causes mine to become irritated and itchy, no matter how clean it is. I would also stop using all other conventional or green products that you may have in order to give this routine a chance!

Again, to make this super easy, we now have our first-ever Organic Bunny Dermatitis Kit which comes with all of the items in this blog to get you soothing your skin naturally.
